- Software issue forces company to recall EVs
- The issue could lead to a risk of an accident
Automaker Hyundai has recalled thousands of models of popular electric vehicles (EVs) due to a major fault that could cause the car to lose power.
The company has recalled 3,566 types of Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 electric vehicles, with the recall notice being issued on Friday.
‘Due to a software issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit, the auxiliary 12-volt battery may not charge as intended … ,’ Hyundai said in their recall notice.
‘A loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.’
The issue could result in battery drainage and also a loss of motive power. The vehicles affected by the issue were built between 2021 and 2024.
Customers, who own any of the affected vehicles, have been urged to contact their local Hyundai dealership to have the software updated.
The update will be provided free of charge.

The latest recall comes after Hyundai recalled 3,521 vehicles of both models in April.
The two EV models are the flagship electric vehicles produced by the South Korean manufacturer.
The Ioniq 5 was released in 2021 while the Ioniq 6 model was released in July 2022.
